Who doesn’t love a little fashion week fun? Yohji Yamamoto was up for the challenge with his latest collection for Adidas, inspired by the World Cup. Backstage, Yamamoto said it was the fans, not team uniforms, that influenced the clothes, which boasted patriotic insignia and colors. Sleek cutaway coats and blazers paired nicely with drop-crotch sweats and cropped trousers for the ladies, while his men’s wear looked like the height of comfort — T-shirts, unlined jersey parkas and a spectrum of trouser shapes including long, roomy shorts. Pointed hems on plaid shirts cleverly evoked blanket-clad sports spectators, while a series of sleeveless meshlike dresses and tops for both women and men nodded to soccer nets, such as the one that dropped at the show’s end, allowing Yamamoto and French soccer star Zinedine Zidane to kick logoed balls at the photo pit.
