As green leaves rustled against a pale blue autumn sky outside the lobby of Southbank Centre’s Queen Elizabeth Hall, Erdem Moralioglu conjured a natural fashion world all his own. He sent out acres of multi-colored flowers, some embroidered on simple shifts, others screen-printed on to dresses with tiered, ruffled skirts. But this collection hit more than just one high note. Moralioglu played with lace, fashioning it into a double-breasted white trench or a long-sleeved mini-dress. Black lace grabbed its share of the spotlight, too, layered over a blue dress or cut into bits to adorn a pink one. Although Moralioglu has worked with flowers and lace in past seasons, he never fails to keep them fresh – and to cultivate his own talent.
