Three years into its run, Vogue Italia and Alta Roma’s emerging-talent competition has yet to spotlight talent like that of first-season winners Tommaso Aquilano and Roberto Rimondi. This year’s closest comparison came from the accessories arena, in which two British shoe labels, Chrissie Morris and Bionda Castana, tied for first place. Both collections — Morris is more colorful and funky with strappy sandals, some studded with cabochons, while Bionda Castana, codesigned by Jennifer Portman-Cascioli and Natalia Barbieri, is classic with an edge — felt fresh and new. Clothingwise, Gabriele Colangelo’s soft, feminine fare inspired by the Japanese artist Hiroshige, took top honors. It was plenty pretty, while Ilaria Nistri’s water-inspired prints and arty cuts were worth watching, too.
