The play of light on water inspired Black this season, and that translated
into miles of silk organza for barely-there ruffle-front blouses and long,
diaphanous halter dresses. But Black’s elegant, grown-up collection had its
more tailored and textured elements, too: There were belted military skirt
suits in washed-out shades of brown; crisp, white trench coats with a delicate
curve of grommets at the back; and skirts that mixed leather and knitwear.
Joan Burstein, the founder and owner of Browns in London, and one of Black’s
early champions, said it all: "He’s brought the elegance of Italy to London.
These are clothes you want to wear."
