Far fewer bugle beads were spotted on Mark Badgley and James Mischka’s runway this time around. Rather, it was a pared-down affair that made for delightful day pieces. Citing inspiration by “the romance of travel,” in particular the promenades of steamships, the duo sent forth lightly tailored coats, in georgette and satin, while guipure on skirts and jackets added polish. The prints felt fresh, as with white and fuchsia florals and gazar separates in taupe and cream daisies. Badgley and Mischka may have reined in the embellishments, but with a new focus on day looks, their signature eveningwear lacked some of the dazzle their ladies love. Still, the best of them did have that touch of flash, as with a berry crepe and satin gown with beaded ruffles and a violet column, edged in sparkly lace and tulle.
