Recession talk and money woes, be damned. Angrew Gn’s girls always want to live the luxe life. So Gn saw fit to launch an Atelier label of couture-level clothes for spring. That may sound redundant to those familiar with Gn’s already opulent oeuvre. Case in point:  this season’s violet silk crepe suit from the regular collection that’s embroidered with sizable amethysts at the neckline. So just imagine how over-the-top this new line is, with Gn envisioning his muse, the legendary Helena Rubinstein, and her jewels on a jaunt to India. (Read: lots of tony boho flourish.) For both collections, Gn kept the silhouettes fairly streamlined and simple, using them as chic canvases for his pile-on embellishments: pretty passementerie and hand-enameled metal embroideries on jersey tunics, blouses and brocade coats. He went more sumptuous, with Atelier, where he lavished his clothes with semi-precious turquoise, lapis lazuli and topaz. There were a few cleaned-up ladylike looks, such as the opening white linen coatdress, but this is a collection tailor-made for dames well worth their weight in gold — and fantastic gemstones.
