Antonio Marras channeled the spirit of the French explorer Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza via muted colors, breezy silhouettes and rustic fabrics perfect for an expedition along the banks of the Congo. Jackets, some discreetly embroidered with African and floral motifs, were layered over jersey T-shirts and paired with cropped and cuffed linen trousers in white, ivory or pearl gray. Tailored clothing had a soft touch with discrete Prince of Wales patterns or stripes for a collection that both seductive and wearable. The show took the season’s desert explorer look to a new zenith when bottles of sand poured onto the runway for a dramatic, dusty finale.
