Recently, Neil Barrett said men's wear could use an injection of modernity. And starting from his first look - a coat with an extra lapel that doubled as a scarf - Barrett stayed true to his word, straying from the clean and precise approach of seasons past. Experimenting with artsy cuts, his tailoring, while sometimes tricky, made for an intriguing series of black jackets with sections in gray flannel that appeared as if they were pieced together from other mismatching garments. Rubber-coated cable knits and shirts with asymmetrical fabric combinations rounded out the offer. At times Barrett pushed the envelope too far, but kudos to him for experimenting in a season of restraint.
