Hugo’s first Paris show underscored the label’s positioning as Hugo Boss’ most modern line. Designer Bruno Pieters found inspiration in German Expressionism, a movement largely associated with its architecture. Sharp-edged silhouettes, angular cutting and graphic, black-and-white patterns drove home the point. Jackets resembled formalwear with their dramatic cutaways. Knotless neckties also held intrigue. But even interesting ideas become repetitive after a point.
