After years of globe-trotting for inspiration, Nicole Miller decided to go for something closer to home for fall — the imposing angles of New York City, perhaps? Instead of exotic prints, her collection was flush with architectural references, such as sharp lines, geometric cuts and origami effects, rendered mostly in black with strokes of cobalt blue and fuchsia. Miller worked the motif subtly at first with straightforward shift dresses, some with square shoulders, others with tucked details, and escalated it into sexy sophistication with bondage details and bustier dresses. Exposed zippers and leather biker jackets hammered home this edgier, more urban Miller moment, which was a strong showing.
