The buzzword for Cynthia Rowley this fall? “Items.” And in these times, the designer’s wise to address an increasingly important way of shopping. On the runway, this meant her accessories got the spotlight treatment. For instance: the flashy, in-your-face tights, which were lavishly beaded, printed and embellished to the hilt. (It’s a brand spanking new license with United Legwear.) The pieces mentality extended to the Weimar Republic-themed clothes, too. Much of it worked a serious potpourri vibe, whether in patchwork skirts or dresses and jackets in mix-and-match prints and textures. But the downside to this approach was a collection that, by show’s end, felt too piled on and distracting. The best moments were the simplest.
