Alberta Ferretti is a proven splice master. Not a season goes by when she doesn’t mix and match textiles, textures and colors with stylish abandon. Things were no different in this collection, as she started off with an engaging color-contrast story, mingling one saturated jewel tone with another. To wit, she paired an amethyst blouse with petrol blue harem pants, all cinched with a ruby obi belt, and sent out a cozy beastly fur in tiers of motley hues. But then came a draped leather LBD, followed by a host of diverse looks: tough-chic tops and dresses with bejeweled armorlike shoulders, lace-and-velvet flapper frocks and a finale of glitzy, ritzy red-carpet fare, done up with sequins, beads, lamé or net overlays. In the end, Ferretti packed her runway with so many ideas that the collection lost its focus.
