The historic Del Mar Race Track celebrated its 75th opening day last Wednesday, drawing crowds eager to watch the thoroughbreds in action. Even in casual Southern California, the afternoon took on a decidedly dressed-up look. For the ladies, it was all about colorful sleeveless frocks and sundresses paired with turf-appropriate wedges or sandals, and for the gents, blazers and button-downs with tailored shorts or trousers. And keeping to proper sartorial tradition, most outfits were topped off with a hat — from netted fascinators to floppy straw numbers.
