Individualism was key to the elegant crowd that showed up at Carnegie Hall on Wednesday night to celebrate the opening of its 2012-13 season. Long gowns seemed fresh again — from saris to slipdresses — as did a velvet and chiffon beauty from Tom Ford. Vintage, always a gala favorite, looked great in a short, swirly dress from Geoffrey Beene as did classic, satin evening pants worn with le smoking.
