If you’re Stella McCartney and you’re five hours away from accepting the first Accessories Council Excellence Award for “Green Designer of the Year,” what do you do? Forget primping and prepping. You hold a spring tea party-cum-trunk show, with proceeds going toward eco-friendly concerns. Which is exactly what the designer did today in collaboration with environmental group Natural Resources Defense Council, which received 10 percent of all sales. Those in attendance included NRDC board member Anna Carter, Chrissie Hynde and Nejma Beard.

But green wasn’t the only color on everyone’s minds. It’s the day before the elections, so think reds and blues, too. “I’m watching the election at home with friends,” said Jessica Seinfeld, with husband Jerry in tow. “I haven’t missed one word out of Rachel Maddow’s mouth — she’s my long-lost sister.” McCartney, for her part, was visibly throwing her vote — if the Brit had one — to the Dems. To wit, among the organic edibles — macaroons, meringues, biscuits and scones — there were Obama cookies from Eleni’s in New York. “I thought I’d add a little fun to the election,” said the designer, who added a “Vote Obama” postscript to her recent runway show notes. The treats proved as big a hit as the clothes, with guests running out with handfuls as souvenirs. “Is that horrible? I’ve got kids,” noted one shopper. Meanwhile, Justine Koons, McCartney’s guest at the ACE Awards with hubby Jeff, said she had another reason to celebrate Election Day. “I’m going for my citizenship interview tomorrow,” the South African remarked. “My friend said that’s going to be auspicious.”
