The inspiration for Kate Spade’s inaugural apparel collection, as creative director Deborah Lloyd put it, was “all our favorite things.” The collection is set to wholesale at Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Bloomingdale’s this fall, as well as sell at the company’s boutiques. The mandate translates into Sixties-era silhouettes imbued with whimsy: jeweled cuffs on a mustard-yellow shift, black dots splashed on a silk blouse, houndstooth and plaid skirts mixed up with cropped, big-buttoned coats. “Classic, with references to Paris and London” is the way Lloyd described the lineup, no doubt a nod to Mod girls-about-town, complete with rounded hats that resembled a British bobby’s.
