NEW YORK — First Daughter Jenna Bush is not expected at Oscar de la Renta's bridal fashion show today, and for good reason: The designer has already created the long wedding gown she'll wear for her May 10 nuptials to Henry Hager at the Bush family's Crawford, Tex., ranch.

But de la Renta is not touting his latest political coup. In fact, he declined to comment. Ditto for Lela Rose, who is said to be doing the honors for the bridesmaid dresses. Even First Lady Laura Bush's press secretary did not return a phone call from WWD inquiring about the dress.

However, during a press conference Friday, a White House spokesman acknowledged the First Family was at the Crawford ranch dealing with pre-wedding plans. Spokesman Scott Stanzel said "that's certainly something that is on their mind."

De la Renta was more forthcoming in January, when WWD asked him, as well as a host of other designers, to sketch a wedding dress for the blonde twin. At that time, he whipped up a strapless, biased dress with lace details and a train, but there's not even the slightest hint that the actual dress resembles Oscar's original recommendation.

It's no secret that the designer is a favorite with the bride-to-be's mother, who has worn his creations to numerous affairs. And she and Jenna Bush were spotted in February on Seventh Avenue during a reported run to de la Renta's showroom.

The wedding weekend is sure to have plenty of designer attire, thanks to other First Daughter Barbara Bush, a former intern at Proenza Schouler and Lela Rose, and a familiar face on the fashion circuit.

But there's no telling what the post-wedding dress code will be once the bride and groom move to Baltimore, where they have shelled out $440,000 for a 128-year-old row house, according to published reports.
