As designer Christophe Lemaire sees it, there are three kinds of Lacoste girls: The first is a lady sheathed in pretty cotton shirtdresses and high-waisted trouser looks. The second, her teenage counterpart, favors neon T-shirts (falling off the shoulder) and terrycloth jumpers shown in a vibrant mix of skin-baring pieces that seemed like a pitch to the American Apparel set. Lemaire’s third girl falls somewhere in between, with her mod color-blocked polo dresses and shirts, now sporting a smaller collar and an irreverent riff on the famous house logo. Still, the real surprise of Lemaire’s spring outing wasn’t his newly quirky croc, but a batch of terrific swimsuits from a creamy crocheted bikini to playful numbers in feisty orange checks.
