David Gandy in Dolce & Gabbana's calendar.

MILAN — Michelangelo may have sculpted his David out of marble, but Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana have sourced one in the flesh.

David Gandy — the bod in Dolce & Gabbana's steamy Light Blue Pour Homme fragrance campaign — has teamed up with the designers once again. The 28-year-old Essex, England, native has not only landed on the packaging of a new line of Dolce & Gabbana underwear, set to bow in the spring, but he will be featured in the duo's first calendar.

"It was really something we decided very last minute," Domenico Dolce told WWD on Friday about the one-off initiative. "Once we saw how the photos for the [innerwear] packaging came out, we thought, why not create a calendar?"

Shot by longtime Dolce & Gabbana collaborator Mariano Vivanco, the calendar features 26 suggestive photos, including a front and a back cover, of the chiseled model.

The black-and-white images run from ironic — there's one in which Gandy is posing naked à la Rodin's "The Thinker," to slightly naughty. For July, for example, Gandy looks as though he's just finished having sex, standing in front of an unmade bed, taking a sip from a water bottle, his underwear strategically placed in his hands as though he's about to put it back on.

"I don't want to say the calendar has this artsy bent to it, but it is artistic and sophisticated," Dolce said, adding that the company made a "significant investment" in it.

Ever since Gandy appeared last spring in Dolce & Gabbana's Light Blue spot, shot by Mario Testino off the coast of Capri, the model's profile has exponentially risen. Fan sites have popped up. Blogs have been written, making him the closest thing to a male supermodel.

"The reaction — especially by women — really surprised us," said Dolce, who equated him to a modern-day Marcello Mastroianni and said Gandy was the perfect physical expression of the Dolce & Gabbana man: fit, healthy and sexy.

However, fans won't be able to buy the calendar. Dolce said the boxed calendar would be sent out with invitations to Dolce & Gabbana's fall men's show, set for Saturday here.
