FASHION MEETS FILM: The first annual Women & Fashion FilmFest will take place in New York on June 8 and June 9. Founded by Jeanine Jeo-Hi Kim, the festival is expected to bring together the fashion and film industries to examine women’s issues as well as support their creative development. The festival, which takes place at The Scandinavia House at 58 Park Avenue, will include 14 screenings, six panel discussions and a Q&A for students.
Among the films being shown are “Girl Model,” a documentary by David Redmon and Ashley Sabin which examines the commodification of young women in the modeling industry and “About Face: Supermodels, Then & Now,” by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders. Others films to be shown are “Ralph Rucci: A Designer and His House,” by David Boatman and “Sexy Baby” by Jill Bauer and Ronna Gradus. Short film highlights include Inez Van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin’s Lady Gaga series and Stuart Weitzman’s “Walking After Midnight,” starring Petra Nemcova and directed by James Franco.
Panel discussions will follow select screenings and will focus on the challenges of projecting women on screen, the business of fashion, defining beauty, and modeling. Participants include Patrica Field; designer/philanthropist Cornelia Guest; Colette Wong, chairwoman of the fashion design program at the Fashion Institute of Technology, model Pat Cleveland, and Trump Model Management president Corinne Nicolas and Christina Perez, Glamour’s fashion development editor.
Festival passes are $150 and are available on womenfashfilm.com. Individual tickets for screenings and panels will be available the week of May 27th.
