TAM’S TURNS: Vivienne Tam has two unveilings coming up in Las Vegas. First, she’s created spa uniforms for the Mandarin Oriental luxury hotel opening in December in City Center. They’re streamlined, reminiscent of the classic “Qi Pao” dress of the Twenties and Thirties and inspired by Shanghai’s Art Deco period, Tam said. “It was a perfect interpretation of comfort and style for the spa colleagues.” Mandarin’s two-level, 27,000-square-foot spa will have 17 treatment rooms, multiple relaxation and water experiences, a fitness center and a yoga studio. It’s Tam’s second go at spa uniforms, having previously created them for the Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong.
Tam is also creating custom upholstered furniture, in partnership with Rowe Furniture. The collection will be unveiled at the Las Vegas World Market in September.
“I have been thinking about this and collecting archives for years,” Tam said. “I want to bring beautifully designed prints, fabrics, colors and textures to create a truly unique line with subtle and sophisticated pieces inspired by my Chinese roots.”
