ON SHOW: Italian high-end woolen mill Vitale Barberis Canonico, which counts a number of luxury men’s wear labels, including Berluti, Caruso, Ermenegildo Zegna, Caraceni, Canali and Paul Smith, among its clients, celebrated its 350th anniversary with an exhibition unveiled on Wednesday night at Milan’s Permanente Museum.
Aiming to show the heritage of the company and exalt its values based on the idea of timeless elegance, Vitale Barberis Canonico creative director Francesco Barberis Canonico asked photographer Fredi Marcarini to shoot ten images centered on the brand’s most iconic fabric patterns. These include houndstooth, pinstripes, chalk stripes, graphic, sharkskin, herringbone, overcheck, bird’s eye, Prince of Wales and damier. In the exhibition, each image was displayed with a swatch of the corresponding fabric, along with a fragrance specifically created by perfume maker Marco Maffei.
According to Barberis Canonico, the pictures will be collected in a book published by Skira and featuring an introduction by men’s wear writer and journalist G. Bruce Boyer.
