Kate Hudson Visits the Capital

The actress spent Tuesday meeting with 50 high school winners of Ann Inc.’s ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative awards while her family visited the sights.

VISITING THE CAPITAL: While Kate Hudson, 33, spent Tuesday at The Dupont Circle Hotel in Washington, D.C., meeting with 50 high school winners of Ann Inc.’s ANNpower Vital Voices Initiative awards, her kids were joining the crowds of tourists in town for spring break. “They’re with their dad and their stepdad,” she told WWD, referring to her son Ryder, 9, her partner and fiancé, musician Matthew Bellamy, and their one-and-a-half-year-old son, Bingham. “They went to the White House, the Lincoln Memorial and the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum.” Hudson added that no one in the gang got inside the White House, where the sequester has led to the canceling of all White House tours. “They just walked around outside.”

Hudson, the face of Ann Taylor’s spring-summer ad campaign, planned to join her family later in the afternoon. “We’re taking the boys to Silver Spring, Md., to visit their great grandmother’s grave,’’ said Hudson, whose mother, Goldie Hawn, was born and raised in Takoma Park, Md., where her mother, Laura Steinhoff Hawn, taught dance school.

That evening, the 50 ANNpower fellows along with Ann Inc.’s chief executive officer Kay Krill and her team planned to join the crowd of 2,500 at the Kennedy Center Opera House to celebrate Vital Voices Global Partnership’s 14th year honoring women from around the globe. On stage to celebrate — Vital Voices cofounder and former secretary of state Hillary Clinton and Vice President Joe Biden. On another stage in Port Chester, N.Y., Hudson’s ex-husband and Ryder’s dad, Chris Robinson, was scheduled to open at the Capitol Theatre on tour with his band, The Black Crowes.
