RETAIL THEATER: Adding to its growing entertainment arm, French flash sale pioneer Vente-Privée.com announced on Wednesday it has bought the Théâtre Michodière in Paris.

Vente-Privée, which already owns the Théâtre de Paris, is keen to boost “synergies between its distribution of cultural products, promotion of artists, ticketing and co-production of music and cultural events,” the company stated.

The new owners will seek to expand the theater’s programming in the humor category, including one-man shows.

“The strength of our media, thanks to our audience of 3 million unique visitors per day, means that we can optimize the filling of a venue via its promotion on the Internet and gives us the ability to create the event ourselves,” said Jacques-Antoine Granjon, founder and chief executive officer of Vente-Privée.

“We want to offer artists an alternative to traditional distribution channels,” he added.

Launched in 2001, Vente-Privée partners with more than 1,500 brands in sectors including ready-to-wear, fashion accessories, homeware, toys, sports equipment, electronics, fine food, wine, theater tickets and holidays, logging annual sales of more than $2 billion.
