TRYING OUT FOR CREW: On the streets of New York, Katie-Holmes-and-Suri sightings are practically as common as pretzel carts. Dealing with overly friendly fans didn’t stop Manhattan’s favorite divorcée from making four trips in one week to J. Crew’s Columbus Circle store. Holmes is no stranger to the brand. Two years ago she appeared in J. Crew’s fall campaign along with Josh Duhamel, Malin Akerman, Adam Brody and other cast members from “The Romantics.” And in her “Dawson Creek” days, Holmes, Michelle Williams and her costars appeared in a J. Crew catalogue.
Loyal as the J. Crew-and-Madewell-wearing actress may be to chief executive officer Millard “Mickey” Drexler’s finery, a J. Crew spokeswoman said Thursday she is not working with the label in any formal way. So perhaps the budding designer was scoping out the competition? Holmes and her business partner Jeanne Yang have locked up a prime time to stage the first fashion week presentation for their Holmes & Yang label. The pair will showcase the line Sept. 8 at 9 p.m. at a yet-to-be-disclosed location.
