JOY BRYANT FINDS RELIGION: Despite the fact that Joy Bryant and Fitz and the Tantrums singer, Noelle Scaggs, live a mere twenty minutes apart in Los Angeles, the old friends reunited for the first time in years at the South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas. “I didn’t know she was here!” said Bryant, who hosted a True Religion party with Elle magazine on Friday night. “We still have each other’s phone numbers,” added Scaggs, who met Bryant long before her rock-star dreams came true. “I used to work for Tracey Ross in Los Angeles, and I used to dress Joy,” she explained.

It’s safe to say a lot has changed for the Motown-inspired singer in the years since. Fitz and the Tantrums, whose new album “More Than Just a Dream” debuts on May 7th, played a Rolling Stone party and an early-morning radio show spot at the festival. “We had 1,000 people there, some of whom showed up at 2 o’clock in the morning to stand in line,” she said. Another festival highlight: watching Chuck D and Ice Cube perform with LL Cool J on Thursday night. “It was really, really cool!” said Scaggs, whose band will be featured in two songs on LL Cool J’s new album.

The former shopgirl paired her light pink, patterned True Religion jeans with Rag & Bone booties and a black leather jacket with some major shoulder pads. Bryant, who showed off her new braided ‘do in a “high-low” ensemble of Madewell sequined jacket, Target t-shirt, True Religion jeans, Jimmy Choo pumps, and Missoni jewelry, may be unveiling a sportier style in the future. “What I really want to do is design snowboard clothes for women,” she said.

Guests, including Scout Willis, sampled down-home cooking like beer-battered asparagus, and checked out a performance from The Dolls on the tented patio at Moonshine Grill.
