FASHIONABLE THREESOME: With the Aug. 22 unveiling of its long-delayed women’s store in downtown Dallas, Traffic Los Angeles completed its designer retail trio at the Joule hotel. The shop brings Traffic’s rock-n-roll sense of style — and exclusives on Rick Owens Lilies, Anne Demeulemeester, Unconditional, Kenzo and Tuesday Night Band Practice — to the same Main Street block as Neiman Marcus flagship.
The 950-square foot women’s shop is situated between the 2,000-foot men’s store that opened in March and the month-old Play shop that sells Comme des Garcons Play Ts, accessories and shoes in 300 square feet.
Michael Moldovan, owner, said he’s been happy with the men’s business so far, especially considering that the street has been a construction zone for months. “The street is getting busier,” he said. “I’ve noticed our business on the weekends is very, very good, and that means people are coming downtown and that’s what we want.”
The men’s store is attracting tourists and conventioneers as well as locals, said general manager Scott Campbell, who figures Play can sell nationally since it’s the only one in the U.S. The next step in the expansion of the Joule hotel is an Espa that’s set to open Sept. 9. Billionaire Tim Headington, who owns the Joule, expects to generate more buzz with the installation of Eye, a 30-foot fiberglass eyeball by Tony Tasset, directly across Main Street on a lot that he owns.
