TIME FOR TOMMY: Tommy Hilfiger has taken on the patron role for “Designer for Tomorrow,” the young fashion talent competition organized by the German specialty store chain Peek & Cloppenburg. The designer takes over from Stella McCartney, who, in turn, succeeded Marc Jacobs. Hilfiger will be involved with the chain’s DFT award for a year.

Hilfiger has already reviewed 270 entries from European fashion school students aiming for the 2014 prize, and has picked his top ten candidates, who will then be narrowed down to five by the DFT trade jury. Looks from the final five will be shown on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin runway in July,  when a winner will be picked. Last year’s prize winner Ioana Ciolacu will also show her collection during the event.

In his role as patron, Hilfiger will help the winner conceptually develop his or her capsule collection. In addition, the winner will have the opportunity to work with the Tommy Hilfiger design teams in New York and Amsterdam.
