Bally Launching Everest Capsule Collection

Line marks the 60th anniversary of Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay's Mount Everest climb, when the latter was wearing a yellow pair of Bally boots.

THE PEAK OF BALLY: On May 29, 1953, when Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay conquered Mount Everest, the latter was wearing a yellow pair of Bally boots, a gift from the Swiss alpine team.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the climb, Bally creative directors Michael Herz and Graeme Fidler have designed an outdoorsy capsule collection that includes a pair of boots available for men and women inspired by the reindeer-leather style worn by Norgay. The boots, which will be for sale exclusively by order at Bally boutiques worldwide starting Wednesday, also feature laces and hooks manufactured by the same German factory that made them for Norgay’s boots.

Bally on Wednesday will celebrate the launch with a charity event in London organized with the Mount Everest and Himalayan Trust foundations. Both Hillary’s and Norgay’s children will attend, along with Rebecca Stephens, the first woman to reach the top of Mount Everest.

The remainder of the Everest collection, which includes accessories and clothes, will hit Bally stores in September.
