DESIGNING DAUGHTER: Guess Inc. has welcomed another Marciano into the family business. Ella Marciano, the 16-year-old daughter of chief executive officer and vice chairman Paul Marciano, has designed a T-shirt to benefit the charity Sojourn Services for Battered Women and Their Children. While interning in Guess’ p.r. department last summer, Ella toured Sojourn’s shelters with her mom, Kymberly Marciano-Strauss, and designed a white tank top printed with a purple heart formed by the words hope, love, courage, strength, community and empower.
“I started thinking about words that were powerful, that could send a message,” the high school junior explained. “All the words are shaped like a heart, which is the symbol of love, which I think is great. At the same time, the design had to appeal to the Guess girl…Even if someone doesn’t know this cause, they’d buy this shirt because it’s an attractive shirt.”
If Ella sounds like a designing and marketing pro, it’s because she first created philanthropic Ts for Guess when she was seven to benefit victims of the 9/11 terror attacks. The $24 top for Sojourn will be available next month on Guess.com and stores in California and Las Vegas. And this probably won’t be Ella’s last philanthropic endeavor. “I would love to make charitable items for Guess,” she said. “It’s something I want to do in the future.”
