THE MAINE THING: Jim Hauptman will be signing off as design director at Maine-based outdoor specialty retailer L.L. Bean to launch a new product design/marketing consultancy called Blaze in Portland, Maine.
The 10-year company veteran will be working as a consultant for Bean through the end of the year. There is no word yet as to who will take on his post, which involves overseeing all product categories — men’s, women’s, kids, home, footwear, travel, outerwear and outdoor equipment.
Hauptman sold his advertising agency, Hauptman & Partners, to join L.L.Bean as catalogue-Web creative director and managing editor in 2001.
