THE GAMES BEGIN: Giorgio Armani unveiled the EA7 Emporio Armani collection he designed for the Italian Olympic Team during a presentation on Thursday at the Armani Theater in Milan’s Via Borgonuovo. Last year, the designer inked a sponsorship agreement with CONI, the Italian National Olympic Committee, to design the official uniforms for the Italian team at the upcoming London 2012 Olympic Games. “Stepping outside my fashion comfort zone and leaving my ego to identify myself in a sportsman’s mentality is something that intrigues me a lot,” said Armani, who added that he will probably go to London in July to attend some Olympic events.
For the occasion, 15 Italian athletes from different disciplines joined the designer to show the Olympic kit consisting of white and midnight blue pieces, including a tracksuit with an asymmetric closure, a nylon jacket, shorts, T-shirts, sweatshirts, running shoes and suitcases.
To celebrate Italy, the national anthem is written in gold inside jackets and sweatshirts, and its first verse appears on a blue band under the collar of polo shirts, while a national-flag-inspired polo features one sleeve in red and the other in green.
