THE ENVELOPE PLEASE: Ready-to-wear designer Jin Kay and accessories designer Melanie Seligman have been named winners of the Empowering Imagination competition presented by Parsons The New School for Design, The Fancy and PPR. The winners will have their creations showcased at the eighth-floor Co-op of Barneys New York’s Madison Avenue store from Monday to Sept. 16. The two were among five finalists from this year’s Parsons B.F.A. Fashion Design graduates whose thesis collections were showcased on The Fancy. Visitors to the site voted on their favorites. As part of their prize, Kay and Seligman will intern with PPR companies. Seligman, whose collection was inspired by orthopedic prosthetics used to build damaged bone and cartilage, will intern at McQ while Kay, whose rtw explores the contrasting definitions of beauty in the East and the West, is in the running for one at Gucci.
“Jin and Melanie both embody the best of Parsons The New School for Design,” said Laurent Claquin, head of PPR Americas. “We are confident their internship experience at our brands will greatly strengthen their talents and solidify them as the next up-and-coming designers.”
