THE DEEP: In another sign of the bounty of Karl Lagerfeld’s creative well, Fendi plans to unveil an exhibition entitled “The Glory of Water” during couture week in Paris. It will showcase the designer’s photographs of Rome’s most striking fountains, including the Trevi, which Fendi has pledged to restore, along with the Quattro Fontane and others, as part of a four-year effort.

Fendi plans to erect a series of dark domes along the banks of the Seine near the ornate Pont Alexandre III bridge to house the exhibition, timed to coordinate with the opening of the Roman firm’s new store at 51 Avenue Montaigne. The exhibit will run from July 4 to 14, with free admission for the public.

Lagerfeld, who figures he has visited the Eternal City at least 740 times, will also unveil a restored version of an 18-minute fashion film his friend Jacques de Bascher shot in 1977 to present Fendi’s ready-to-wear and fur collection.

The fountain photos will be gathered in a 120-page cloth-bound book to be published by Steidl.
