ISN’T IT RICH?: Bernard Arnault, president and chief executive officer of luxury giant LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, is the richest man in France, according to Challenges magazine’s annual ranking of France’s 500 wealthiest professionals released Thursday. Arnault’s fortune, estimated at 22.7 billion euros, or $28.6 billion at current exchange rates, edged out last year’s winner, Auchan supermarket owner Gérard Mulliez and his family, worth 19 billion euros, or $23.94 billion. L’Oréal’s Liliane Bettencourt and her family come in third at 17 billion euros, or $21.42 billion. Three luxury fortunes also figured in the top 10: the Hermès and Bertrand Puech families, which control Hermès International, tied for fourth place at 8.5 billion euros, or $10.71 billion; PPR owner François Pinault and his family in seventh place at 6.2 billion euros, or $7.81 billion, and Chanel’s Alain Wertheimer and family in eighth place at 4.5 billion euros, or $5.67 billion.
