TALENT QUEST: LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton and Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design, or CSM, have named three students who will receive the Grand Prix LVMH Scholarships.
Asad Rehman Khan, Nathaniel Chistopher Lyles and Mao Usami will receive support with their full tuition and living expenses throughout their final year of the college’s BA Fashion course. They were selected based on academic merit, professional potential and financial need by a panel that included representatives from both LVMH and CSM.
“These scholarships give the recipients peace of mind and freedom from the anxiety of daily financial problems, allowing them to concentrate on the creative input necessary to achieve their remarkable final collections,” said Willie Walters, course director of BA Fashion. “It was only really at the end of last year that I was able to appreciate just how much this support had enabled each student to achieve.”
British-Pakistani-born Khan started his career as an apprentice tailor on Savile Row and has worked at Louis Vuitton and Dior; Yorkshire-born Lyles’ main interest lies in knitwear and he has worked at Proenza Schouler and Dior, and Japanese-born Usami’s interest in fashion began with her mother’s wardrobe. All three expressed how the financial support will allow them to focus more clearly on pushing the boundaries of their craft.
CSM has trained designers including Sarah Burton, Ricardo Tisci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, Mary Katrantzou, Christopher Kane and Jonathan Saunders.
