THE SWEDE LIFE: “People always try to tell us what to wear. And what to play. We are a rock band – we make the fashion, you know?” insisted Gustaf Norén, guitarist and singer for Sixties-tinged band Mando Diao. The cocky Swedish rockers turned up the heat Tuesday night at the opening party for trade fair Bread & Butter in Berlin, including a presentation of Universal Music’s first fashion collection of graphic music T-shirts, Rock & Rebellion. Lithe, lanky Norén and feather-haired bassist CJ Fogelklou wore matching grey button-down shirts with subtle silver studs in a pre-show interview, but told WWD, “We want people to listen to our music…we don’t want people to go home from a show and talk about our clothes.” They may have succeeded: The hottest moment of the evening came when Norén and front man Björn Dixgård retuned to the stage and chucked their shirts for an encore, playing their hit “Dance With Somebody.”
