Sunday Gospel Makes Clothing Reference

“Look at the birds of the air…” That famous advice from Matthew was part of the Catholic Church’s gospel on Sunday.

AND GOD BLESS FASHION: “Look at the birds of the air…” That famous advice from Matthew was part of the Catholic Church’s gospel on Sunday. The instruction falls between lines that get into the sartorial world quite specifically: “Do not worry about…what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes?” and “Why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin.” Taking fashion to task? Not according to Fr. Aidan Troy of Paris's St. Joseph’s Church. In a non-sequitor from the main thrust of his homily, Troy cautioned about taking the Matthew’s words too literally. “We don’t want to kill the fashion houses of Paris,” he said.
