HAUTE TO TROT: Singapore will kick off its first Haute Couture Week this month and organizers are commemorating the occasion with a scholarship named after Didier Grumbach, president of the Chambre Syndicale de la Haute Couture in France. Details of the scholarship will be unveiled on Oct. 26 at the week’s opening gala dinner, which Grumbach is expected to attend. The scholarship, which will be open to all nationalities, will be used to fund collections or send designers to study fashion in Paris. The first recipients are Lyna Ty and Melvin Tanaya, the designers behind the Australian label Song For The Mute. "When someone important comes to Singapore, we usually name an orchid after them," said Frank Cintamani, chairman of Haute Couture Week. "But I thought we'd do something different."

Singapore Haute Couture week runs from Oct. 26 to 30 as part of city-state’s inaugural women’s fashion week. Although much of the couture event is a recap of collections already presented in Paris, couturiers like Gustavo Lins and Stephane Rolland will also show some pieces crafted especially for Singapore.
