SILENCE IS GOLDEN: It has been one insanely busy summer weddingwise for Vera Wang — too bad she can’t talk about it. In the past two weeks alone, the designer has dressed Chelsea Clinton, Alicia Keys and Hilary Duff for their respective walks down the aisle. Mention of Wang’s name seemed to go hand in hand with the media’s coverage of the former first daughter’s July 31 big day in Rhinebeck, N.Y. But abiding by Hillary and Bill Clinton’s cry for privacy, the designer has yet to speak of her involvement. And as of Monday she wasn’t dishing about the airy confection Duff wore Saturday for a sunset Santa Barbara ceremony either. But while Duff may only be 22, she is old enough to know there is money to be had — before marrying Mike Comrie, she lined up an exclusive with OK magazine.
K SQUARED: Khloe Kardashian is following in the footsteps of sister Kim — into the world of fragrance, that is. Lighthouse Beauty, which developed Kim’s signature scent, confirmed Monday it is working with Khloe Kardashian and husband Lamar Odom, of the NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers, to create a scent that’s due in department stores in February. Kardashian told WWD at a Casio G-Shock event Aug. 2 — where Odom announced to the crowd they were working on a unisex fragrance — it may be called “Unbreakable,” adding the caveat: “Baby, I dunno, we’re still working on it.” Although the surprise announcement by Odom, who is a brand ambassador for the Ultimate Tough G-Shock watch, set off a firestorm of online media reports, a spokeswoman at Lighthouse said the name has yet to be confirmed. And while fragrance supplier Givaudan, which did Kim’s fragrance, is also blending Khloe’s scent, it’s too early to say what aromas the latter will feature, Lighthouse said. Could eau de Kourtney be up next? “When I was little, my sister Kourtney and I tried to make our own perfume by picking flowers and putting them in the blender, because that’s how we thought fragrances were made,” Kim Kardashian said in an interview last fall. “It smelled totally gross!”
ROBERTSON VYING FOR AVENUE? Sean John president Dawn Robertson is said to be in the running to become chief executive officer at Redcats USA Inc.’s Avenue chain. A Redcats spokeswoman said there is “no new ceo at Avenue” and that “the search process is not complete.” Robertson, who was previously president at Gap Inc.’s Old Navy division, joined Sean John in 2008, overseeing the company’s wholesale and retail operations. In May, the company inked an exclusive deal giving Macy’s an exclusive on its Sean John men’s sportswear, which is also carried at the Sean John store in Manhattan and its outlets. Avenue, which Redcats acquired in 2007, has about 450 stores across 38 states catering to plus-size women. Robertson could not be reached Monday.
MORE LONDON JEWEL THEFTS: A De Beers boutique and Omega boutique located in London’s financial district were both hit by a burglary Saturday night, during which thieves stole items with an estimated retail value of 380,000 pounds, or $596,000 at current exchange rates. The City of London police said Monday that the four suspects, wearing hooded tops and balaclavas, arrived at the gated Royal Exchange shopping courtyard in a red BMW around 10 p.m. Saturday, and then broke through padlocked gates before attacking the windows with sledgehammers. They then left in the same car. Detective Chief Inspector Steven Chandler of the City of London Police major investigations team said, “We are currently following a number of lines of enquiry, and I can reassure the public that every effort is and will be directed to bringing those responsible to justice.” De Beers said the company is “working closely” with the police and that its three other London stores remain open for business.
The incident comes weeks after four men convicted of robbing London’s Graff Diamonds on Old Bond Street of $64 million worth of jewelry last year were sentenced to a collective 71 years in prison.
