SETTLEMENT ON CADMIUM JEWELRY: An Alameda County Superior Court in Oakland, Calif. on Friday approved a $1 million settlement of a lawsuit by the Center for Environmental Health (CEH) and 26 retailers and suppliers. In addition to the payment, the settlement sets strict limits on cadmium levels in jewelry sold after Dec. 31, according to the consent judgment. The CEH said that cadmium is a heavy metal that can cause cancer, as well as genetic and kidney damage. Among the retailers that have agreed to the settlement are: Aéropostale Inc., American Eagle Outfitters Inc., Claire’s Stores Inc., Forever 21 Inc., Hot Topic Inc., Gap Inc., Saks Inc. and Target Corp.
