GAULTIER’S GALAXY: Jean Paul Gaultier’s fall collection gots its own space-themed installation at Selfridges in London Monday, as part of The Masters, the department store’s fall creative campaign. To spotlight Gaultier’s work, Selfridges has commissioned British set designer Gary Card to create a NASA-style control desk, which nods to the Space Age theme of Gaultier’s fall collection. The set, which will stand in the designer galleries area on Selfridges’ second floor, will incorporate multiple screens that will play Gaultier’s show interspersed with cosmic images. And customers will also be able to sit in a moon buggy installed on the set and see themselves on the screens in an outer space landscape. The concession will carry the most comprehensive edit of the designer’s designs in Europe, Selfridges said, and it will also carry a Gaultier unisex T-shirt that’s exclusive to the store, inspired by the fall collection. The Masters campaign, which runs through to Oct. 24, celebrates twelve designers whom Selfridges says have “shaped the fashion landscape,” and sees the store pay tribute to names including Dries Van Noten, Stella McCartney, Marc Jacobs and Azzedine Alaia, alongside Gaultier. The store is also set to unveil its World of Rick Owens installation Monday as a further element of the campaign.
