Second Ami Boutique Celebrated in Paris

The label’s designer Alexandre Mattiussi and Hercules Universal held a cocktail on Thursday night.

MAD HATTERS: A cocktail party was held Thursday night in Paris to celebrate the opening of Ami’s second boutique, home also to a burgeoning portrait gallery featuring red-hatted characters.

The party was cohosted in the Left Bank store by Hercules Universal and the label’s designer Alexandre Mattiussi, who adopted such headgear as a symbol for Ami. He was first photographed sporting a red hat as a kid.

In the back of the new location, conceived like a bar selling clothes, two antique paintings (with hats added in) were first put up for the opening last month. More recently hung were a pair of photographs by Nicolas Wagner.

Other people will be invited to dream up their own interpretation of the theme in the future.

There are other twists to the décor.

Mattiussi said he’s particularly happy with the boutique’s flooring — wood-colored parquet painted over in alternating black squares reminiscent of a traditional marble checkerboard design.

“I always wished to design stores, because it’s part of the design process I love,” he said.
