SCHAEFER HONORED: The High School of Fashion Industries honored Terron Schaefer Tuesday night with its Advisory Board Award at the school’s annual fund-raiser (which raked in $77,500) and fashion show, showcasing designs from the 196-student senior class.
Although he was there to be honored, the Saks Fifth Avenue creative director and newly appointed judge on NBC’s “Fashion Star” had his eye out on the students. “We’re always on the lookout for new talent,” he said shortly before the runway show. “Saks really has a long history of supporting young designers. We were the first store in America to carry Carolina Herrera, Marc Jacobs and Haider Ackermann.”
As of late, Schaefer has been seated in front of plenty of unknown aspiring designers due to his tenure on “Fashion Star.” “It’s all really thanks to my boss, Steve Sadove,” Schaefer said. “He really wanted me to do it. I resisted and kicked and screamed. But it ended up being a fantastic show.”
It looks as though he was in good company. “All the kids are huge fans of ‘Fashion Star.’ They have to be, we’ve mandated that they must watch, ” Daryl Blank, the school’s principal quipped. “They have to DVR it and we quiz them on what happens in every single episode.”
