SAUNDERS’ NEW KNITS: Jonathan Saunders has lent his eye for color and print to the British knitwear label Lyle & Scott, creating a capsule collection for the brand for fall 2014. The collection will make its debut Jan. 6 alongside Saunders’ men’s collection at the London Collections: Men shows. The 32-piece knitwear collection features designs such as bold intarsia knits, roll-neck sweaters in contrasting color panels and pique polo shirts in graphic prints, in a color palette of green, red, clementine and blue. The lineup also includes a Harrington jacket and four footwear designs, such as a saddle shoe in contrasting colors. Prices for the collection start at 26 pounds, or $43, for a T-shirt and run to 102 pounds, or $168, for the Harrington jacket.
Lyle & Scott said Saunders’ use of color, pattern and graphic motifs “has a clear relationship with Lyle & Scott’s 1960s golfing heritage,” referring to the patterned sweaters that put the 140-year-old brand on the map, adding that, like Lyle & Scott, Saunders hails from Scotland.
Tapping Saunders to design a collection isn’t the only fashionable move the label is making. Last year, the brand appointed Carolyn Massey, a young British men’s wear designer who has shown her collections at London Fashion Week in the past, as head of design for the label.
