SARGE MARCHES ON: Vicki Sarge has parted ways with Erickson Beamon, the jewelry brand she founded with Karen and Erick Erickson in the Eighties, and has set up on her own, taking over the original brand’s former store on London’s Elizabeth Street. “I knew I wasn’t happy, and I had to do something to make it better,” said Sarge ahead of the opening earlier this week. “I love [Erickson Beamon], it was just at a point for them to grow and for me to grow — and we both had to separate.”
Julian Metcalfe, the founder of the Itsu and Pret A Manger food chains, and his wife Brooke Metcalfe have a majority stake in the new business, and are joint managing directors. Brooke (whose previous surname was de Ocampo) is heading up marketing and branding, as well as overseeing the refit of the 270-square-foot Belgravia shop. She said she wants the jewelry — which ranges in price from 250 pounds, or $400, for a pair of earrings, up to 1,000 pounds, or $1,600, for a necklace — to be displayed “artistically,” and said she was inspired by the Deyrolle taxidermy shop in Paris. “It’s very much in the mood of a cabinet of curiosities,” she said.
