KaufmanFranco Designers Tapped for American Airlines Uniforms

The new uniforms, for both women and men, will be the first complete refresh in over 20 years, and follows last week’s news of the airline's new logo.

RUNWAY BY DESIGN: Ken Kaufman and Isaac Franco of KaufmanFranco have been tapped to design new uniforms for American Airlines personnel. The new uniforms, for both women and men, will be the first complete refresh in over 20 years, and follows last week’s news of a new American Airlines logo. The partnership between American Airlines, which is reorganizing after bankruptcy, and KaufmanFranco, the first of its kind for the airline, entails new uniforms for flight attendants, customer service agents and premium service team members. The design process will take about 18 months, from sketches to fabric selection to focus groups and fit tests, before the new uniforms are rolled out in 18 to 24 months.

“We want them to look timely, but timeless, too,” said Kaufman, who added that the design team is also preparing for a “runway show” of a different nature in New York on Feb. 11 at Lincoln Center.
