Roopal Patel, senior market editor for accessories at the Neiman Marcus Group, is leaving the luxury retailer to join Web site modaoperandi.com, which holds online trunk shows for designers, according to sources today. Her title at modaoperandi.com could not be learned.
Patel had responsibilities covering handbags, shoes, fashion accessories, fashion jewelry and designer jewelry for the Neiman Marcus and Bergdorf Goodman divisions, and their respective dot.com businesses. News of her departure from NMG isn’t entirely surprising, considering when she was shifted from Bergdorf’s to the Neiman Marcus Group in June 2009, there were reports she was not pleased and would have preferred to move up the ladder at Bergdorf’s, where she had been senior fashion director over various women’s ready-to-wear areas.
However, Neiman’s at the time said her move to accessories was part of a strategy spreading talent across the divisions, and that Patel, along with a few other executives would assume a broader role that would benefit the business. Others saw it as a centralization that would save some costs while filling responsibilities of some staffers who had left the company.
