BRUSH STROKES: Ronnie Wood said artist Damien Hirst encouraged him to tap into his artistic side after a recent stint in rehab. “All I did when I got home was get loads of art materials, brushes and paints. It changed my life,” said the Rolling Stone, whose new collaboration with Liberty of London was launched Thursday night at l’Eclaireur in Paris.
The capsule line, designed in collaboration with Liberty’s creative director, Tamara Salman, features prints based on three key paintings by Wood: “I Feel Like Painting,” “Orchid” and Hawaiian Guitar,” which has a Chagall feel to it. That the resulting paintings have ended up on a line of garments is even more exciting for Wood, who is a keen follower fashion, with Vivienne Westwood his favorite designer.
The “Ronnie Wood for Liberty of London” line for women and men includes shift dresses and T-shirts, plus accessories, including scarves. Retail prices range from around $140 to $1,700. As Wood continues to churn out artwork, Salman said the collaboration is likely to continue. “We’ve got a lot more around the back,” said Wood.
