RUNWAY TO VEGAS: The rent-to-own ratio has shifted in the renters’ direction at the Cosmopolitan Las Vegas’ retail lineup.
Los Angeles fashion retailer Beckley’s outpost at the hotel and casino has closed, and Rent the Runway is taking its place for a three-month run starting Friday. The nearly 1,900-square-foot Rent the Runway store will offer same-day dress rentals of floor-length gowns and shorter cocktails dresses for everything from New Year’s Eve parties to hitting the Las Vegas club scene. The store carries merchandise from more than 190 designers, including Badgley Mischka, Halston Heritage and RVN. Rental prices range from $50 to $450 and sizes from 0 to 22.
“Las Vegas is one of the only places on earth where it’s not only appropriate but pretty much required to wear something outrageous every night of the year,” said Jennifer Hyman, chief executive officer and cofounder of Rent the Runway. “Who better to get you into that gold sequined minidress than Rent the Runway? The Cosmopolitan serves as the perfect partner, with its vibrant and see-and-be-seen atmosphere.”
Beckley owner and Las Vegas native Melissa Akkaway explained she closed the Cosmopolitan store because she’s been too busy with Beckley’s Los Angeles location and her clothing line Beckley by Melissa to give it full attention. “If there were three of me, Vegas would remain open, but since I’ve yet to figure out cloning — something has to give. I love Vegas. Vegas will always be home, but I need to focus on my businesses that are based in Los Angeles,” she said.
